Yela Prosecure, a source of functional dietary fibre to support gut microbiome.
TRIAL SUMMARY
(Lallemand Center of Excellence - Internal Trial
CONTEXT
Functional dietary fibres are polysaccharides resistant to digestion which are partially or completely fermentable in the large intestine. They can promote intestinal health by regulating the composition and metabolism of bacterial communities, providing energy to colonic epithelial cells and supporting the maintenance of intestinal integrity. The microbial fermentation of undigested dietary carbohydrates results in the production of beneficial metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) which play a pivotal role in supporting maintenance of intestinal homeostasis. The predominant SCFAs, acetate, propionate and butyrate have been associated with various health benefits (e.g. regulation of appetite, improved insulin sensitivity, energy expendure). In summary, functional dietary fibres are essential for gut health and contribute to overall well-being by supporting bacterial balance, providing energy and influencing metabolic pathways.
